Obverse
On the obverse of the 2024 British Gold St. George and the Dragon Coins, there is a bust of His Majesty King Charles III. Martin Jennings created this image for The Royal Mint in late 2022, and it debuted in 2023. His Majesty is shown in left-profile relief without a crown.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2024 1/4 oz Gold St. George and the Dragon Coins features an image of St. George by Jody Clark. Here, St. George is depicted on horseback, riding over a dragon and slaying the beast with his spear. This depiction is commonly seen in both art and currency designs.
History
Numerous churches across Britain feature depictions of St. George and the dragon in various forms. These include stained glass windows, stone carvings, and wall paintings. A notable example is the 15th-century wall painting in St. Gregory’s Church in Norwich, which shows St. George on horseback fighting the dragon.
