History

Since its debut in 1986, the Australian Nugget-Kangaroo series has seen several changes. From 1986 to 1989, the coins featured different gold nugget images for each weight. Starting in 1990, the series became known as the Australian Kangaroo, with new kangaroo designs each year. Between 1990 and 2008, the coins displayed kangaroos but retained the Australian Nugget engraving on the reverse.
