On the obverse of the 1899-O Morgan Silver Dollar, Lady Liberty is depicted in left-profile. Designed by George T. Morgan, she is shown wearing a Phrygian cap with a laurel wreath and coronet crown, with 13 stars surrounding her head to represent the original colonies.

Reverse

The reverse of the 1899-O Morgan Dollar features the heraldic eagle, another design by George T. Morgan. The bald eagle is shown with its wings spread wide, holding arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing both war and peace. This design stands out because the eagle is not depicted with the typical US national shield.

History

In 1899, the New Orleans Mint was the main production site for Morgan Silver Dollars, minting over 12 million coins. This marked the first of four consecutive years in which the New Orleans Mint would strike the greatest volume of Morgan Dollars among the branch mints.
