Product Description

First minted in 1878, the Morgan Silver Dollar, created by George T. Morgan, became a staple of American currency during its production years. BGASC now has 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins available for purchase.

These 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and are offered in protective plastic flips. For larger orders, coins may come in tubes of 20. The Morgan Dollar is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, making it a valuable piece of American history.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar features a portrait of Lady Liberty facing left. George T. Morgan is believed to have used Anna Willes Williams as the inspiration for this design. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap and a laurel wreath, with a coronet resting atop her head. She is surrounded by 13 stars, symbolizing the original colonies.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 1886 Morgan Dollar, you will find a heraldic eagle in front-facing relief with its wings extended. Morgans eagle design is unique, as it does not include a national shield. Instead, the eagle is depicted holding arrows of war in one talon and an olive branch of peace in the other.

History

In 1886, Morgan Dollar production reached significant numbers, especially at the Philadelphia Mint, where over 19.96 million coins were struck. The New Orleans Mint contributed another 10.71 million coins, while the San Francisco Mint produced 750,000 coins. The Carson City Mint did not produce any Morgan Dollars this year.
