The Morgan Silver Dollar remains one of the most famous silver dollars ever issued by the United States Mint. It was first introduced in 1878 and minted until 1904, with a brief revival in 1921. During its time in production, the coin was struck at several US Mint branches, including Philadelphia, San Francisco, New Orleans, Carson City, and later Denver. Obverse

History

For the 1881 release of Morgan Silver Dollars, the US Mint operated out of four branch mints. The San Francisco Mint had the highest production at 12.76 million coins, while Carson City produced the fewest, striking just 296,000 coins. The Philadelphia and New Orleans Mints contributed to the years total with 9.163 million and 5.708 million coins, respectively.
