Obverse

On the obverse of the 2016-S Proof American Silver Liberty Medal, youll find a modern depiction of Lady Liberty. She stands front-facing, crowned with a wreath, holding a torch high in her right hand and an American flag on a flagpole in her left. Reverse

On the reverse side, the 2016-S Proof Silver Liberty Medal features the American bald eagle. The eagle is shown in a left-profile relief, soaring through the sky with an olive branch in its talons. This majestic bird has been the symbol of the United States since 1792.

History

In 2016, the US Mint issued two versions of the Proof American Silver Liberty Medal. While the designs were the same, the medals were struck at different facilities. The 2016-W version was minted at the West Point Mint, marked with a W mint mark, while the 2016-S medals were produced at the San Francisco Mint, marked with an S mint mark.
