Product Description

The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is among the most famous gold bullion coins globally. First released in 1979, it was the first to offer strong competition to the South African Gold Krugerrand. At launch, the Royal Canadian Mint only offered the coin in a 1 oz gold size. In 1982, they expanded the series to include smaller coins, including the 1/4 oz option. Now, 1982 1/4 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins are available online at BGASC.

Highlights:

  • Coin arrives inside a protective plastic flip!
  • 3rd year of issue for Gold Maple Leafs!
  • 1st issue of the 1/4 oz Gold Maple Leaf!
  • Contains 1/4 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold in BU condition.
  • Issued a face value of $10 (CAD) by Canada.
  • Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
  • Sugar maple leaf on the reverse.

Each 1982 1/4 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin available from BGASC is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and packaged in a protective plastic flip. This year marked a big moment for the Maple Leaf Series as the Royal Canadian Mint expanded its lineup and increased gold purity to .9999 fineness.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1982 1/4 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coin features a right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This design was first used for the Maple Leaf Series and was created by Arnold Machin in 1965. It shows a 39-year-old Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 1982 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf, you will see the well-known sugar maple leaf design. Introduced in 1979 by Walter Ott, this realistic depiction of the leaf became the standard artwork across the Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Palladium Maple Leaf Series.

History

The sugar maple leaf does more than look nice; it plays key roles in the trees health. Its broad surface helps the tree collect sunlight for photosynthesis, while the leafs shape helps manage heat and makes the tree more wind-resistant. The petiole, or stem, has special cells that allow the leaf to detach cleanly in the fall.
