Obverse

The obverse of the 1916 McKinley Gold Coin carries a left-profile portrait of President McKinley. Though seen as a traditionalist, his presidency drove important changes both within the country and internationally. His leadership led to the expansion of US territory, including Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 1916 $1 McKinley Gold Coin highlights the McKinley Birthplace Memorial. Located in Canton, Ohio, this towering structure features a domed mausoleum standing 96 feet tall. Completed in 1907, the memorial was made possible by the generous donations of over one million Americans.

History

William McKinley was the 25th President of the United States, serving from 1897 until 1901. His leadership helped push the country onto the global stage after a quick victory in the Spanish-American War. McKinleys domestic policies, focusing on high tariffs and the gold standard, were key in pulling the economy out of a serious downturn.
