Obverse

On the obverse of the 2025 Pitcairn Islands Gold Ocean Wonders Turtle Coin is a portrait of King Charles III. This left-facing, uncrowned image is by Glyn Davies and is the first official royal design used on coins from the Pitcairn Islands.

Reversre

The reverse side of the 2025 1 oz Gold Ocean Wonders Turtle Coin shows a sea turtle swimming in its natural environment. Important nesting areas like Tetiaroa in French Polynesia and Moso Island in Vanuatu provide ideal places for females to lay their eggs. Females often return to the same beach, nesting several times in one season, though they may only do so every few years.

History

Sea turtles in the South Pacific eat different foods depending on their species and age. Young green turtles eat a mix of plants and animals but become mostly herbivorous as adults. Hawksbill turtles have narrow beaks that help them pull sponges and corals from small reef spaces, supporting the overall health of the reef.
