Obverse

On the obverse of the 2025 1/2 oz Gold Maltese Cross Coin, youll see the Central Bank of Maltas seal. A shield stands in the center, held by two armored knights. Maltese crosses sit to the left and right, with the background field filled with radiant linework for extra visual texture.

Reverse

The reverse shows the well-known Maltese Cross. This eight-point symbol was embraced by the knights during the First Crusade, and each point stands for one of their guiding principles: loyalty, piety, honesty, courage, honor, disregard for death, aid for the sick and poor, and respect for the faith.

History

After being exiled from Jerusalem and later from Rhodes, the knights settled on the island of Malta in 1530. The cross became a lasting emblem of their influence and was widely used on Maltas fortresses, buildings, and currency during their long rule.
