Scottsdale Mint ships each bar in protective plastic to help guard against scratches and wear. The Imperium Collection uses a straightforward, industrial finish to highlight the strength of its Roman numeral themes. The mints logo is also clearly marked on each piece.

Design

The obverse side of the 5 oz Imperium V5 Bar features the Scottsdale Lion near the top and the weight and purity inscriptions near the bottom. A large Roman numeral V is centered between them. The use of V comes from an old tradition, possibly based on a hand showing five fingers or a similar Etruscan character. The reverse of this silver bar is left completely blank.

History

The letter V holds an important role in the Roman numeral system. It stands for the number five and is used to form other values, such as VI (6), VII (7), and VIII (8). The symbol is never duplicated in a row and consistently represents five regardless of where it is used.
