Design

On the obverse, youll find the Scottsdale Lion logo, hallmarks, and a large Roman numeral X in the center. The X stands for ten and may have come from placing two V symbols together or from the crossing of two hands, representing ten fingers. The reverse side of the bar is blank.

History

The Roman numeral X plays an important role in counting by tens. It can be shown up to three times in a row (XXX for 30) and also used in subtractive forms like XL (40) and XC (90). These features made X a key symbol in expressing both simple and complex numbers.
