Security measures on the reverse include a wave-pattern background, tincture lines on the Union Jack shield, a latent image, and fine micro-engraving.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2026 British Gold Britannia presents the official portrait of King Charles III. Introduced in 2022 by designer Martin Jennings, this is the first appearance of the King on British coinage and portrays him without a crown.

Reverse

On the reverse, the 2026 1 oz Gold Britannia features Philip Nathans 1987 design. Britannia stands firmly on coastal terrain, holding a trident in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. She carries a Union Jack shield and wears a Corinthian helmet.

Over the past three centuries, Britannias image has transformed to match changing artistic tastes. From ornate, detailed artwork in the 1600s to streamlined and modern interpretations in recent times, her symbolic shield, trident, and helmet remain constant.
