The $5 Indian Gold Half Eagle marked the start of the final design series for the US Mints Pre-1933 $5 Gold Half Eagles. In 1908, the San Francisco Mint was among the locations producing these coins for use across the country. That year, 82,000 coins were struck, making it the first San Francisco issue in the series. Obverse
The obverse of the 1908-S Indian Half Eagle displays a left-profile view of an indigenous figure wearing a feathered headdress. This was one of the earliest appearances of an indigenous chieftain in US coinage. Around the portrait, thirteen stars appear, with six on the left side and seven on the right side of the design.
Reverse
On the reverse, the bald eagle stands on a bundle of arrows wrapped with an olive branch. The eagles wings are folded at its sides, and like the obverse, the image is struck into the surface rather than raised above it.
History
The coins designs were created by Bela Lyon Pratt, who used an incuse relief method so the images are set below the coins surface. His work shows a standing eagle holding both arrows and an olive branch, symbols of strength and peace. The recessed artwork adds contrast and depth to the overall design.

In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies. When will my order ship?
Most BGASC orders are shipped within one (1) business day of your payment clearing. Payments made via PayPal clear instantly. Bitcoin payments clear instantly once the transaction is confirmed. Credit Card and bank wire payments process within 1 business day. ACH and paper check payments take 3-5 business days. Can I choose the method of shipping?
All orders of $199 or more that are eligible for free shipping are, by default, shipped via a carrier of our choice (USPS or UPS). Depending on the contents and size of your purchase, you may be able to upgrade to a specific carrier during checkout.
Will I need to sign for my package?
For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
What about International Orders?
BGASC is only able to ship to addresses in any of the 50 US states. This includes P.O. boxes and APO addresses.
