To keep up with investor interest, the United States Mint expanded production efforts in April by calling on the Philadelphia Mint. All 2020 (P) 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins available from BGASC are housed in protective plastic slabs and display an NGC label noting the Emergency Production designation. Each coin is graded Mint State 69, indicating strong eye appeal with only minimal imperfections. These may include very small marks or hairlines that do not appear in the primary focal areas.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2020 (P) American Silver Eagle presents Adolph A. Weinmans Walking Liberty design. Liberty is depicted stepping confidently toward the sunrise while wrapped in the American flag, symbolizing hope and forward progress.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2020 (P) 1 oz Silver Eagle Coin features John Mercantis heraldic eagle. The design shows a powerful eagle with a shield, olive branch, and arrows, representing national unity and preparedness.

History

Financial markets around the world were under heavy pressure in March 2020 as the pandemic disrupted economic activity. Stock values dropped quickly, and investors increasingly sought assets like silver for added security. The West Point Mint, responsible for producing Silver Eagles, soon exhausted its supply. Production became more difficult due to temporary shutdowns and staffing limitations. To help offset these challenges, the Philadelphia Mint produced 240,000 Silver Eagles as part of an emergency release.
