The rising sun fills the background with its rays, while the olive branch beneath the eagle and the inscription PEACE highlight the central theme that has made the Peace Dollar one of America’s most recognized coin designs.

History

Production of the original Peace Dollar series ended in 1928 after government officials determined that existing supplies of silver dollars were sufficient for commercial circulation. Because large numbers of coins remained in federal storage, additional minting was unnecessary, bringing the initial series to an uneventful conclusion after seven years.
