The Proof American Platinum Eagle Coin is the only major bullion series from the U.S. Mint to feature new reverse designs each year. While the Brilliant Uncirculated series has a fixed design on both the obverse and reverse, the Proof series introduced fresh reverse designs annually from 1997 to 2017. From 2018 to 2020, the series switched to new obverse designs. Right now, you can find 1/2 oz Proof American Platinum Eagle Coins with random dates available at BGASC.

Obverse
The obverse of each 1/2 oz Proof American Platinum Eagle Coin displays the Statue of Liberty. This iconic design, created by John Mercanti in 1997, focuses on her face as she gazes into the distance, with her hand holding a torch that extends out of view.
Reverse
On the reverse, each coin features a new design based on its release year. Early coins from 1997 to 2002 depict the American bald eagle soaring over various U.S. landscapes as part of the Vistas of Liberty series, while later releases include unique designs that change from year to year.
History
The American Platinum Eagle Series was first introduced by the U.S. Mint in 1997, with both Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof versions available in four different weights. The series started with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins, though the fractional-ounce versions were discontinued after the 2008 release.
