Each 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle you purchase today will come in its original capsule, but please note that it does not include the display box or Certificate of Authenticity originally provided by the US Mint. BGASC offers these coins as a random year selection, meaning that your coins date mark may range from 1988 to 2008 or from 2010 onward, as no Proof Gold Eagles were made in 2009.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the 1/4 oz Proof American Gold Eagle, you will see the image of Lady Liberty, a design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens created in 1907. In this depiction, Liberty stands in a front-facing profile, holding her torch high above her head while grasping an olive branch in her left hand.

Reverse

The reverse of the 1/4 oz Proof Gold Eagles features a design showing an American bald eagle family. This distinctive design, created by Miley Busiek in 1986, showcases a male eagle soaring over a nest while a female eagle protects her hatchling beneath her wing.

History

The United States Mint introduced Proof American Gold Eagle coins in 1986, starting with just the 1 oz size. Following this, the Mint expanded its offerings by adding three more sizes in 1987 and 1988. The first of these additions was the 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagle in 1987, which was then followed by the introduction of the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins in 1988.
