Obverse

On the obverse of the 1 oz Colorized Silver The Wild Polar Bear Round, youll see a powerful polar bear standing on a platform of ice while the sun sets in the distance, washing the sky with warm, blended colors. Polar bears are adapted to Arctic conditions through a thick, double-layered coat and hollow, translucent guard hairs that help guide sunlight toward their dark skin to capture warmth. A substantial layer of blubber provides extra insulation and keeps them buoyant in the water. Their broad pawsreaching up to 12 inches wideact as built-in snowshoes on ice and as strong paddles for swimming.

Reverse

The reverse of the Scottsdale Colorized Silver The Wild Polar Bear Round features the common image used throughout the series. This design shows a white-tailed deer skull from a straight-on perspective. Along the rim of the round, you will find the standard hallmarks and the name of the series.

History

Across North America, polar bears occupy the circumpolar Arctic, including northern areas of Alaska and Canada, and may occasionally drift toward the northern United States on ice floes. Canada is home to roughly two-thirds of the global polar bear population. These apex predators rely heavily on sea ice, where they spend much of their lives hunting ringed and bearded seals.
