History

The Minnesota license plate has seen subtle changes since 1978, most notably with the addition of the canoe and boreal forest island. In 1982, the state outline was introduced to separate the three letters and three numbers. There have also been variations in shades of blue and alterations to the order of letters and numbers. The motto 10,000 Lakes has been featured on Minnesota license plates since 1950.
