Design

The obverse of the Engelhard Gold Standard Poured Loaf Silver Bar includes all identifying marks. It starts with the Gold Standard Corporation logo. This company was established in Kansas City in 1977 by Conrad J. Braun. Below the logo, the bar shows its serial number along with weight, metal content, and purity. The reverse face is intentionally left blank.

History

To make poured bars like these, producers start with solid silver placed into a mold that covers both the top and bottom. Heat is applied, often using induction techniques, to melt the silver and fill the mold. Once cooled and solidified, the bar is removed and finished. Sometimes, the molten silver is poured directly into the mold through a narrow entry. This technique usually results in smooth, flat bars with a more consistent surface than traditional hand-poured bars.
