Product Description

The Carson City Mint was created in 1870 to handle the processing of gold and silver from the booming Comstock Lode in Nevada. Its location helped avoid the costs and dangers of transporting metal to faraway mints. Morgan Dollars struck here from 1878 to 1885 and again from 1889 to 1893 are popular with collectors today for their frontier history and unique CC mintmark. BGASC now has certified 1884-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins available.

Highlights:

  • Comes with a protective plastic slab!
  • 7th release of Morgan Silver Dollars!
  • Original mintage of 1,136,000 coins at Carson City!
  • Limited availability of certified coins!
  • Contains .7734 Troy oz of actual silver content.
  • The face value of $1 (USD) is fully backed by the US government.
  • Graded Mint State 62 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • On the obverse is a portrait of Liberty.
  • The reverse features the heraldic eagle.
  • Bears a CC mint mark from the Carson City Mint.

Each 1884-CC Morgan Silver Dollar listed here has been graded MS62 by NGC. These coins have a modest shine with several small marks and occasional larger ones. Some light hairlines may also appear across the surface.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the 1884-CC Morgan Dollar is a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty. This design by George T. Morgan shows Liberty with detailed facial features, loose curls, a Phrygian cap, and a crown inscribed with Liberty. A laurel wreath rests behind the crown, and 13 stars circle the bottom edge.

Reverse

The reverse side includes a front-facing image of a bald eagle. The eagles wings are spread wide, and it grips arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. This well-known symbol by Morgan represents both the power and peaceful intentions of the nation.

History

The mint’s activity depended on several factors, including funding and the changing political landscape. Though it had an uneven history, the mint officially closed in 1893 after producing many memorable coins, including Morgan Silver Dollars and gold coins with the CC mintmark.
