Obverse

The obverse side of the 1884 Morgan Dollar Coin features a lovely left-profile relief of Lady Liberty. It is believed that Anna Willes Williams served as the model for this depiction. Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap, a laurel wreath, and a coronet crown, surrounded by 13 stars.

Reverse

On the reverse side, the 1884 Morgan Silver Dollar showcases the heraldic eagle, which does not include a national shield in Morgans design. The eagle is portrayed in a front-facing relief, wings spread, grasping both arrows, symbolizing war, and an olive branch, representing peace.

History

In 1884, Morgan Dollars were produced at various mints, including the Philadelphia Mint, Carson City Mint, New Orleans Mint, and San Francisco Mint. Philadelphia and New Orleans were the leaders in production, striking 14.07 million coins and 9.73 million coins, respectively. The Carson City Mint produced 1.136 million coins, while the San Francisco Mint contributed an additional 3.2 million coins to this series.
