George T. Morgan’s rendition of the heraldic eagle adorns the reverse side of the 1900-O Morgan Dollars. What sets Morgan’s design apart is the absence of the US national shield, making it distinct. The heraldic eagle takes a frontal stance with wings spread wide, while its talons firmly grasp the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.

History

One of the most famous coins minted in New Orleans is the 1849-O Liberty Head Double Eagle, also known as the “1849-O $20 Gold Piece.” It is highly sought after by collectors and is considered a rare and valuable coin. The Morgan Dollar was, however, one of its most consistent issues.
