Product Description
The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle was the last design in the $20 Gold Double Eagle series and is admired for its elegant depiction of Liberty. BGASC now offers 1908 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coins in certified condition for purchase online.

Obverse
On the obverse of each 1908 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, Liberty is shown striding forward in full-length detail. She holds a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, with the Capitol Building below and a ring of stars around her. Radiating sun rays fill the background of the design.
Reverse
For the reverse, the coins artwork centers on the American bald eagle. The bird is seen flying in left-profile relief over the rising sun. The inscriptions on this side identify the United States and the coins $20 face value.
History
These coins are classified as Type I issues. The obverse design includes a ring of 46 stars to represent the states of the Union at the time. The reverse, however, does not feature the motto IN GOD WE TRUST near the bottom between the sun and its rays. Midway through 1908, this motto was added to the reverse, and in 1912, the obverse gained two more stars for the new states of New Mexico and Arizona.
