Product Description

The first gold coins officially issued in Canada were minted in 1912 at the Ottawa Mint, which was then part of Britains Royal Mint network. These coins were struck in $5 and $10 denominations and featured a portrait of King George V, marking Canadas role within the British Empire. BGASC now offers 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coins for sale online.

Highlights:

  • Coin arrives inside a protective plastic slab!
  • 2nd issue year for Canadian Gold Reserve Coins!
  • Made with Canadian gold!
  • Contains .4837 Troy oz of actual gold content.
  • Issued a face value of $10 (CAD) by Canada.
  • Bears a Grade of Mint State 63 from the Professional Coin Grading Service or Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • King George V on the obverse.
  • Canadian coat of arms on the reverse.
  • Please note that we do not guarantee whether the coin is PCGS or NGC certified.

Each 1913 $10 Canadian Gold Reserve Coin is graded Mint State 63 and ships inside a plastic slab. These coins show some wear, including light scuffs, a few noticeable marks, and faint hairlines that may be visible without magnification. Coins may arrive with a label from either PCGS or NGC, but we cannot promise a specific grading service.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1913 Canadian Gold Reserve Coin shows King George V in left-profile relief. He is shown wearing a crown, with detailed clothing visible around the shoulders. Latin inscriptions appear around the outer edge of this side of the coin.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 1913 $10 Canadian Reserve Coin, the Canadian coat of arms is shown. This version reflects the original 1868 design adopted after Confederation. The image features a shield with symbols representing several provinces and elements from the broader British heritage.

History

These coins were only produced for a short time, with fewer than 850,000 pieces made before production stopped in 1914 due to World War I. The coins available here were found in a stored group of 300,000 pieces held in the Bank of Canadas vaults. This group includes $5 and $10 coins from 1912 through 1914.
