Obverse

Reverse
The reverse of the 1926 Sesquicentennial Gold Coin showcases Independence Hall in Philadelphia. The coins design came from U.S. Mint Engraver John R. Sinnock and carried an authorized mintage of 200,000 pieces. While that figure was produced, low demand resulted in most being melted down, leaving around 46,019 coins surviving today.
History
The Sesquicentennial celebration took place in Philadelphiathe birthplace of American independence. Running from June to November, the Sesquicentennial International Exposition featured exhibits focused on the nations progress in technology, manufacturing, and the arts. Despite its significance, the exposition struggled financially and drew fewer visitors than expected.
