History

When it launched in 1982, the Gold Panda Series consisted of just four weights from 1 oz down to 1/10 oz. A 1/20 oz coin joined in 1983, with larger sizes added later. The reverse’s panda design changes annually, except in 2001-2002 when it remained the same. Other changes included adjusting the legal tender amount in 2001 and shifting from Troy ounces to grams in 2016.
