Product Description

The 1 oz Mexican Silver Libertad was introduced by the Mexican Mint in 1982 and has been issued each year since then. This consistency makes it the longest-running weight in the Silver Libertad Series. Over the years, both the front and back of the coin have gone through design changes, especially in the earlier releases. BGASC is currently offering the 1992 1 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coin for purchase.

Highlights:

  • Comes with a protective plastic flip!
  • 11th release of 1 oz Silver Libertad Coins!
  • Final mintage of 2,458,000 coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • The obverse features the Mexican coat of arms.
  • On the reverse is Winged Victory.

Each 1992 1 oz Mexican Silver Libertad available from BGASC is shipped inside a plastic flip. This specific release holds the record for the highest number of coins ever minted in the Silver Libertad Series. With 2,458,000 coins struck, it surpassed the 1985 total by over 400,000 and nearly doubled the highest mintage figure from the 2000s (set in 2016).

Obverse

On the obverse of 1992 Silver Libertads, the central image is the Mexican coat of arms. This artwork depicts a golden eagle in the act of wrestling a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus. Surrounding the image is a detailed border influenced by traditional Aztec designs.

Reverse

The reverse displays the front-facing image of Winged Victory, a symbol originally featured on Mexicos Gold Centenario. She holds a laurel wreath aloft in her right hand while her left hand carries a pair of broken chains representing freedom.

History

Early Silver Libertads featured artwork taken from the 1921 Gold Centenario coin. The obverse design used from 1982 to 1999 included just the current version of Mexicos national seal. That changed in 2000 when a decorative ring with 10 past versions of the seal was added to the design on larger silver coins. On the reverse, the design used from 1982 through 1995 shows Winged Victory facing forward. Starting in 1996, the image was updated to a side-view portrait.
