Obverse

The obverse of the 1996 1 oz Gold Panda shows the traditional design used since the first issue in 1982. It features the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests, located in Beijings Temple of Heaven complex. Built in 1420, this historic building stands at the center of the site and is recognized for its layered roof and circular shape.

Reverse

For the reverse of the 1996 Chinese Gold Panda, the mint created a one-year-only design showing a young panda cub climbing in a tree. Panda cubs often display playful behavior, which helps them learn social skills and develop the strength needed to live on their own as they grow older.

History
