Each 1999 1/2 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin comes sealed in a plastic pouch. These are Small Date specimens, meaning the numbers on the date stamp are smaller and tighter than those seen on other versions of the 1999 coin.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1999 1/2 oz Gold Panda Coin features the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests from Beijings Temple of Heaven Complex. The artwork captures the stairway leading up to the temple entrance, offering a strong image of Chinese craftsmanship and history.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 1999 Chinese Gold Panda, a Giant Panda is shown standing on a rock ledge. The panda looks out over the ledge with bamboo filling the background, creating a calm and natural setting.

History

Giant pandas are native to the mountainous bamboo forests of central China, mainly found across six isolated mountain ranges in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu. Although pandas once lived in lower regions, human expansion has moved them to higher elevations, where the cooler climate helps bamboo grow.
