Product Description

In 1979, the Royal Canadian Mint launched its Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Series, beginning with a single gold coin. Over the years, the series expanded to include silver, platinum, and palladium coins. The Gold Maple Leaf remains one of the most well-known gold coins in the market. Today, BGASC offers the 2001 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin for purchase.

Highlights:

  • Comes with a protective plastic flip!
  • 20th issue of 1/10 oz Gold Maple Leafs!
  • Declared mintage of only 63,470 coins!
  • Contains 1/10 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • The face value of $5 (CAD) is fully backed by the Canadian government.
  • On the obverse is Queen Elizabeth II.
  • The reverse features the sugar maple leaf.

Each 2001 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin offered here is shipped in a protective plastic flip. The 1/10 oz coin was one of the first fractional weights in the series, added in 1982 alongside the 1/4 oz version. These coins, along with the original 1 oz version, helped establish the series reputation for 24-karat gold purity.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2001 Gold Maple Leaf Coin features Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile. The portrait used was created by Dora de Pedery-Hunt in 1990. It shows the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem. Notably, this was the first Canadian coin portrait of Elizabeth II made by a Canadian artist.

Reverse

On the reverse, the sugar maple leaf design appears. This artwork was designed by Walter Ott in 1979 and has been featured on all bullion versions of the Maple Leaf Series in gold, silver, platinum, and palladium.

History

The Gold Maple Leaf coin debuted in 1979 with a 1 oz gold option made from .999 fine gold. In 1982, the Royal Canadian Mint introduced the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz versions. Later, the 1/2 oz coin was added in 1986, followed by the 1/20 oz coin in 1993. A smaller 1 Gram version was introduced in 2014.
