Initially, the mint alternated between Philip Nathans 1987 Britannia portrait and new annual designs in odd-numbered years. By 2012, the series settled on using Nathans artwork every year. The 2002 release had the lowest production at 36,543 coins, while 2010 reached the highest with 129,086 coins.

Obverse

The obverse of 2004 British Silver Britannias features the fourth-generation portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley. Created in 1998, this right-facing effigy shows the Queen with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 2004 1 oz Silver Britannia Coin is Nathans original 1987 Britannia design. Britannia wears a Corinthian helmet, holding a trident in her right hand. Her left hand carries an olive branch and rests upon a shield with the Union Jack flag.
