History

Proof versions of the American Gold Eagles were introduced alongside the BU coins in 1986, with the initial offering being the 1 oz Proofs. The 1/2 oz Proofs were introduced in 1987, followed by the addition of 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz versions the following year. It’s worth noting that Proof production was temporarily halted in 2009 due to the housing crisis.
