On the reverse of the 2006 1 oz Silver Eagle, you’ll find the heraldic eagle, a modern rendition of the national emblem designed by John Mercanti in 1986, based on Robert Scot’s 1795 design. This emblem features the bald eagle supporting the US national shield.

The mintage of 10.67 million coins in 2006 marked a strong performance for the BU Silver Eagle. This was the second-highest mintage in program history at the time, but would soon be surpassed. The 2008 Silver Eagle nearly doubled this figure, the 2009 and 2010 coins tripled this figure, and the 2011, 2014, and 2015 coins all quadrupled this figure.
