History

Early issues of the Chinese Silver Panda were numismatic coins, with proof options struck in .900 pure silver from 1983 to 1985. After a hiatus in 1986, the coins were issued as proof options again in 1987, with sterling silver (.925) content. Another hiatus in 1988 was followed by the 1989 introduction of 1 Troy oz .999 pure silver coins being introduced.
