In 2009, the global demand for precious metals created challenges for the US Mint, affecting both collector and bullion coin offerings. Throughout the year, the one-ounce version of the Gold Eagle faced order rationing in the first half and again at the year’s end. Limited quantities of fractional-ounce Gold Eagles became available towards the end of the year. Due to the shortage, the US Mint canceled planned collectible versions of both the Gold Eagle and the Silver Eagle in October. Presently, BGASC offers the 2009 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle coin.

The obverse of the 2009 American Gold Eagle coin displays Saint-Gaudens Lady Liberty, a full-length figure walking towards you, torch in her right hand, and an olive branch in her left, with flowing hair in the breeze.
Reverse
The reverse, sculpted by Sherl J. Winter based on Miley Busiek’s design, symbolizes the importance of family in America. A male eagle, carrying an olive branch, flies towards a nest with a female eagle and eaglets, featuring several inscriptions.
History
In 2009, the price of gold continued its upward trend, closing the year at $1,087.50 after surpassing the $1,000.00 per ounce mark. This marked the tenth consecutive year of gold closing higher than the previous year. Additionally, in December 2009, the price per ounce of gold reached a new record high – $1,212.50 per ounce.
