The reverse of the 2018 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin showcases an American bald eagle in flight, carrying an olive branch over its nest. Below, eager hatchlings await, guarded by a vigilant female. Engravings include the nation of issue, weight, metal content, and face value of the coins. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1 OZ. The American Gold Eagle coin made its debut in 1986, introducing both bullion and proof versions. Uniquely, it is the only major bullion coin program from the United States Mint offering fractional-weight options available solely in bullion and proof versions. The burnished Gold Eagle, however, is exclusively available in the 1 oz weight category.
