Obverse
On the obverse of each 2022 American Gold Eagle, you’ll find the iconic image of Liberty, originally designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907. Liberty strides forward, holding a torch and an olive branch, with the U.S. Capitol Building in the background and a ring of stars.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2022 1 oz Gold Eagle Coins features the new design by Jennie Norris, displaying the detailed head of an American bald eagle in left-profile relief.
History
In 2021, the US Mint issued Gold Eagles with the original Miley Busiek design from January to June. However, from July 2021 onwards, the Mint exclusively released coins with the all-new reverse design by Jennie Norris. Now, with the release of the 2022 Gold Eagles, only the striking new bald eagle design is available in the series.
