2023 1/10 oz British Gold Britannia Coin NGC MS70 (Last 500 Struck, Queen Elizabeth II)
Product Description
Throughout its history, the Gold Britannia Series has primarily featured a single monarch on its obverse. After Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September 2022, The Royal Mint introduced coins with King Charles III on the obverse for the first time. Prior to this change, the early 2023 coins were struck with the Queen’s effigy one last time. Now, you can find certified-perfect 2023 1/10 oz British Gold Britannia Coins available at BGASC.

Obverse
The obverse of the 2023 British Gold Britannia includes the final effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This design by Jody Clark from 2015 shows the Queen in right-profile relief at the age of 89, wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2023 1/10 oz Gold Britannia Coin, you’ll find Philip Nathans classic image of Britannia. This 1987 design depicts Britannia in full-length, wearing a Corinthian helmet and holding a trident in her right hand, symbolizing Britain’s naval strength. Her left hand rests on a Union Jack shield, representing her defense of the nation.
History
Prior to 2023, The Royal Mints Britannia Series only featured Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Her Majesty appeared on all gold coins from 1987 to 2022 and all silver coins from 1997 to 2022, with a total of five different effigies. In early 2023, she was featured one final time before the introduction of the new King Charles III portrait.
