Obverse
Lady Liberty features on the obverse of 2023 American Gold Eagle Coins. This design was created in 1907 and shows the full-length figure of Liberty in front-facing relief as she walks toward you with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other.
Reverse
An American bald eagle graces the reverse side of 2023 1/4 oz Gold Eagle Coins. Jennie Norris created this design in 2020 for the US Mint and it depicts the head of the bald eagle in left-profile relief.
History
American Gold Eagle Coins received a reverse design overhaul in 2021. The 2021 release marked the 35th anniversary of the series and the US Mint released the coins in two versions, with one featuring the original design for a final time and the other bearing this new design from Jennie Norris.
