For the obverse design of the 2023 South African Silver Krugerrand Coin, the South African Mint features a design honoring Paul Kruger. A former President of the South African Republic, Kruger was a leading Boer statesman in the late 19^th century and was fondly known as Oom Paul, or Uncle Paul, in Afrikaans.

Reverse

In the reverse design element of 2023 1 oz Silver Krugerrand, you will find a depiction of the Springbok antelope. The design shown here first appeared on South African currency in the 1930s and has graced the Krugerrand since 1967.
