Obverse
The obverse of the 2024 Tuvalu Silver SpongeBob SquarePants Coin showcases a portrait of King Charles III. This left-profile bust of Charles III was created by Jody Clark, who also designed the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Charles III is depicted without a crown.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2024 1 oz Silver SpongeBob SquarePants 25th Anniversary Coin, Jennifer McKenna beautifully illustrates SpongeBobs happiness. The design features SpongeBob with a wide smile, along with jellyfish and bubbles in the background. The 25th-anniversary emblem is also included on this side.
History
The main character, SpongeBob, was inspired by a simple, innocuous kitchen sponge, giving him a distinctive, friendly appearance. Hillenburg chose this design to reflect SpongeBob’s optimistic and energetic personality. SpongeBobs home, a pineapple, was chosen because Hillenburg thought it looked like something a sea sponge would live in and because of its strong association with tropical imagery.
