Obverse

The obverse of the 2024 British Silver Tudor Beasts The Tudor Dragon Coins features King Charles III. This left-profile bust, created by Martin Jennings, was introduced in mid-2023. The design portrays Charles III without a crown, differing from the crowned portraits of his predecessors.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2024 2 oz Silver Tudor Beasts The Tudor Dragon Coin showcases the Tudor Dragon, designed by David Lawrence. The Red Dragon of Wales is depicted from the Tudor Era, holding a shield that features the Beaufort Portcullis badge.

History

The Tudor Dragon became part of the Royal Arms through the rulers of the Tudor Dynasty, which originated in Wales. The surname “Tudor” is derived from the Welsh name “Tewdwr,” which is the Welsh form of “Theodore.” This name had been used in the family for generations, tracing back to Tudur ap Goronwy in the 13th century.
