Each 2025 1/10 oz Australian Gold Kookaburra Coin comes safely housed in a plastic capsule. This 2025 issue marks the 35th anniversary of the coin program, which has featured a new kookaburra image each year since its debut in 1990.

Obverse

On the obverse of the coin, youll find the official portrait of King Charles III. This left-facing design was introduced in 2024 and was created by Dan Thorne. It belongs to the first generation of designs featuring the new king, who appears without a crown in this image.

Reverse

The reverse offers the 2025 design honoring the series 35th year. In the design, a kookaburra is shown sitting quietly on a branch, wings at its sides, turning its head back as if glancing toward the viewer. The background features a rising sun.

History

The laughing kookaburra is the most well-known of the species and is found throughout eastern Australia. It belongs to the kingfisher family and is famous for its call that sounds like human laughter. Over time, it has adapted from forest living to thrive in areas modified by people, using cleared spaces and tree branches for hunting.
