The American Gold Eagle series was first introduced by the United States Mint in 1986 and has become one of the most widely recognized gold bullion coins. With a design that reaches back to early 1900s American coinage, this gold coin represents a timeless piece of history. Each coin is housed in a commemorative Blue Eagle Card. This card features a bald eagle silhouette on the reverse side and a write-up about the selection of the eagle as the U.S. national bird on the front. The coin itself is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

Obverse

The obverse design shows Lady Liberty walking forward with a torch and an olive branch. Originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907, the design includes sun rays behind Liberty, the U.S. Capitol Building at the base, and stars around the edge of the coin.

Reverse

For the reverse, the coin displays a left-profile portrait of a bald eagle. Designed by Jennie Norris in 2020, this image began appearing on American Gold Eagles in 2021 to mark the 35th anniversary of the series.

History

These American Gold Eagles contain 22-karat gold using a blend of metals unique to the U.S. Mint. Rather than using only copper, the Mint includes 91.67% gold, 5.33% copper, and 3% silver. This composition gives the coin durability and a distinct appearance compared to other bullion coins.
