Product Description
Between 1485 and 1603, the Tudor Dynasty shaped Englands move from medieval rule to a Renaissance-era kingdom. Monarchs such as Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I played key roles in that transformation. To celebrate the legacy of the Tudors, the Royal Mint launched the Tudor Beasts Series, a continuation of the popular Queens Beasts collection. BGASC now offers the 2025 1 oz British Gold Tudor Beasts The Greyhound of Richmond Tube.

Obverse
On the obverse side of the 2025 Greyhound of Richmond Gold Coin is a left-facing portrait of King Charles III. This first-generation design was created by Martin Jennings and introduced in 2022. The uncrowned profile reflects a modern approach taken by the Royal Mint in recent years.
Reverse
The reverse features a detailed image of the Greyhound of Richmond holding a shield bearing the Three Lions. The greyhound was a symbol of the Tudors’ royal claim, often appearing in the decor of their residences and official documents. It speaks to their desire to link their rule to Englands historic monarchy while establishing a distinct Tudor identity.
History
The Tudors had Welsh origins and came to power after Henry VIIs victory at Bosworth Field. They ruled during a time of major religious conflict, foreign engagements, and dynastic uncertainty. Despite these challenges, they made lasting changes to Englands cultural and political foundations, establishing stronger naval forces and encouraging the growth of the arts.
