Obverse

The obverse design presents the Great Wall of China, a famous historical landmark. Originally constructed as separate walls by different states, the structure was unified in 221 BCE by Emperor Qin Shi Huang to create a large defensive barrier along the northern border.

Reverse

On the reverse, the coin showcases a classic image of a Chinese dragon. A legendary figure in Chinese folklore and tradition, the dragon represents authority, fortune, energy, and spiritual wisdom. Its legacy appears across centuries of Chinese art and culture.

History

The dragon was embraced by Chinese emperors as a sign of supreme power starting in the Han Dynasty (206 BCE220 CE). These rulers claimed dragons as personal symbols, worn on five-clawed robes to mark their rank. The dragon came to represent the emperor himselfknown as the Son of the Dragonand even his throne was referred to as the Dragon Throne.
