History

The white rhinoceros is one of Africas Big 5, a term once used by hunters for the five most dangerous animals to track: lion, leopard, elephant, Cape buffalo, and rhino. Normally calm, white rhinos will charge when threatened, reaching speeds of 30 mph and using their horns to defend themselves, which made them a challenging target for hunters years ago.
