Each 2025 5 oz British Silver The British Lion Coin is offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are securely packaged in individual plastic capsules and feature a unique surface animation on the reverse that forms the Union Flag when viewed under light.

Obverse

The obverse of the coin shows His Majesty King Charles III in a left-facing profile without a crown. This portrait was introduced in 2022 and created by artist Martin Jennings. It is the first official effigy of King Charles III to appear on UK coins.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2025 5 oz Silver The British Lion Coin was designed by David Lawrence. It depicts a confident lion sitting in left-profile relief. The lion has its jaws open in a roar and one front paw resting firmly on a shield, creating a striking and memorable image.

History

King Henry II, who ruled from 1154 to 1189, played a major role in making the lion a key royal symbol. His marriage to Eleanor of Aquitaine helped reinforce its use. In British heraldry, the lion stands for courage, power, and royal dignity. A rampant lion, standing on its hind legs, represents strength and bravery, while a passant lion, walking with one paw raised, reflects quiet authority and noble resolve.
